Welcome to St. Herman Orthodox Christian Church!

You may be wondering what denomination “Orthodox Christianity” is, if you have never heard of it. You may be surprised to know that Orthodox Christianity predates denominations. The Orthodox Church is the oldest Christian Church on earth; it is the “one, holy, catholic, and apostolic” Church established by Jesus Christ and His Apostles! To worship God in an Orthodox church is to know what worshiping God was like for the earliest Christians. The early Church’s Holy Tradition, the Apostolic Faith: scripture, theology, spirituality, and worship, has been passed on down through the ages and is still preserved today in the Orthodox Church. Our Sunday Service is called the Divine Liturgy, since it comes from God, the Holy Spirit. It is an earthly manifestation of the worship of God in Heaven (see Isa. 6 and Rev 4 – 5).

Every Sunday morning at the Divine Liturgy, Holy Communion is served by the priest to Orthodox Christians who have prepared themselves to receive it. Holy Communion is one of many Holy Mysteries (i.e. Sacraments) participated in by Orthodox Christians. Everyone is welcome to attend the Divine Liturgy or any of our Services (e.g. Great Vespers on Saturdays). However, in order to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion in an Orthodox church, one must first be baptized and chrismated an Orthodox Christian. Baptism and Chrismation are two more of the Holy Mysteries of the Orthodox Church which unite a person to Christ, making them living members of His Body, the Church.

THE BEST WAY TO GET TO KNOW US IS TO “COME AND SEE.”

We encourage you to spend a ‘month of Sundays’ with us. And if you have any questions about visiting our parish or about Orthodox beliefs, you are welcome to contact our pastor, Fr. Nicholas Johnson. He would be more than happy to answer your questions.

We’re very glad you found us, and we look forward to meeting you soon!
